I began packing for NYFW last night, pulling options from the closet and taking into consideration the September heat, crazy schedules, photos being taken and general chaos as the three main factors that define my attire. This can really be said for any event that requires you to pull long hours while maintaining a put-together air about you. But the thing I may struggle with the most during long days is a fresh face. With street-style photographers lurking around every corner and that dry impending September heat in the city, it's very easy to be caught in a less-than-flattering light. Despite what you're wearing, a fresh face is essential to keep you from looking stale when the ninth hour hits. To do this, I've found a few makeup bag essentials that make any look fresh and kept for hours on end.
Photo: My makeup style of choice.
Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray: This spray, to be put on before foundation and then as a finishing touch, is my life saver. It not only whisks away any shine or oil that may gather after your makeup has been on longer than its general lifespan, but it sets your makeup so that not even your mascara wilts.
Smashbox High Definition Healthy Fx Foundation with SPF 15: SPF is a must in both a foundation and a powder for me, and this foundation is so light-weight that you'll feel you're simply applying sunscreen. However, the HD effect used in the formula smoothes coloring and dark spots, and gives a super complete coverage while making your skin appear almost airbrushed.
Josie Maran Argan Oil Hair Serum: Extra shine + frizz free when the heat or long hours take a toll on your tresses. Just a tiny little bit goes a long way, and the smell is divine.
Smashbox Be Legendary lipstick (in Nylon Nude and Melondrama): This lipstick is not only long-lasting but keeps the perfect amount of glossy shine, which I've found is lacking in most long-lasting lipsticks. Nylon Nude goes with essentially everything
(and looks great while you still have a tan!), while Melondrama is the perfect berry pout.
Ta-da! Fresh-faced and fancy free for New York Fashion Week.
xoxo
