Book Club

This week, my eyes are either glued to a computer screen or knee-deep in a book for research. So how is it, do you think, that I keep finding time to add books I want to read to my ever expanding list (I mean, honestly, you'd think I'd had enough by now)?
But no. I can't wait for a few lazy days to cozy up with a good book out on my front porch in this beautiful weather. I can't wait to turn an actual page (not an e-book) and be happy to do it. I find myself constantly jealous of my friend Alex, who in her spare time, has re-discovered the library and her library card (not to be confused with her Library Card to all you Oxonians out there). So I've been making a "when things calm down list" of reading, and I'm sharing with you and hoping for some feedback and reviews. Let's begin:

1.  The Romantics: A group of Yale post-grads that have loved each other since the day they met. A wedding. A love triangle. Quirky, romantic, and all things love. Absolutely. I posted about the upcoming movie here. And as a must-read-the-book-before-the-movie kind of girl, it is essential that this is my first.

2. Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and the Dawn of the Modern Woman: While this sounds a bit scholarly-like, I'm still willing to try it out. Why I am the way I am? Sure go ahead and compare me to Audrey Hepburn, I don't mind and I'd like to know how. Not to mention a love for the late-starlet and New York City combined is a sure-fire seller to this girl.

3. Sex God: Before you make assumptions, hear me out. Rob Bell, the author, only wrote my all-time favorite book maybe ever, Velvet Elvis. And this book is not a Christian dating how-to or a why-wait manual. "It's the story of God becoming human, of humans mirroring God and love made manifest in the chaos of our humanity." Well, I really like the way that sounds. And after reading Ashlyn's post over at Miss Magnolia, I'm further convinced.

4. A Little Bit Wicked: Life, Love, and Faith in Stages: Autobiography of Kristin Chenowith, who I adore (Hello, she is in Wicked, she guest-starred on Glee, and she's funny. Enough said) Make me laugh girlfriend, go ahead.

5. The Great Gatsby: Just because, ok? My (and yours, and your sister's, and your mom's, and your boyfriend's cousin's step-sister's) favorite book- and sometimes you just need a refresher on it. (Up for discussion, why has this not been made into a blockbuster major motion picture? I'm thinking Pride and Prejudice Style here, maybe I should write Warner Brothers?)

Hi Ainsley, I just discovered your blog today, and I love! My dad asked me the other day if I was going to get a tablet for reading. My response? Absolutely not. After looking at a computer screen all day, my eyes need a break -- I was at the library this weekend for a few books. Keep up the good work!
